Peer-to-Peer Thought Leadership Roundtables: Format

Direct Engagement Inc. in conjunction with its sponsoring partners is facilitating a unique and authoritative means to obtain un-edited and un-scripted primary data directly from the industry decision makers in a real-time discussion forum.

Roundtable Structure

In today's economic environment there is a discontinuity from the inception of policy to its interpretation by administrators to its actual operational implementation and finally down to the ultimate impact it has on the consumer.

The roundtable peer-to-peer thought leadership forums are comprised of senior management that represent government, industry administration, operational management and end-users.   In an open interactive exchange, experiences are shared on a specific surveyed topic of concern. Panelists discuss their most pressing issues at a practical level in the context of high level strategic & policy mandates as it is imposed on their operational environments. Concerns, requirements and best practices are deliberated collectively in real-time. The roundtables are not driven as policy forums, seminars, debates, conferences or guest speaker engagement opportunities. It is a real-time forthright, candid peer-to-peer interactive discussion on the most critical operational issues facing an industry's stakeholders today.

Roundtable Format:

Moderator:

A moderator presides over the roundtable. The moderator will convene the roundtable and introduce each panelist with a short bio.  Following the introductions the moderator will put forward the discussion theme of the roundtable to the forum after which each panelist in succession will be provided an opportunity to expound on it through their particular perspective.  Once each panelist has spoken the first question from the audience is entertained.

Panelists:

Each panelist is provided an opportunity to put forward their perspective based on the discussion theme.  Panelists may pose questions to other panelists and may follow-up with comments to both panelist responses or audience questions.  Each panelist is also provided an opportunity for closing remarks.

Audience:

Audience members are invited guests of the organizers that represent industry people, associations, vendors and government.  They will have an opportunity prior to the convening of the roundtable to meet with other registrants and panelists over breakfast .  Upon adjournment of the roundtable they will have opportunity again to introduce themselves and meet with the panelists and other members of the audience.  Audience members will be invited to participate in the discussion by posing questions to the panel.  A question is posed by being recognized by the moderator who will ask the person to stand identify themselves and then pose a question.

Media:

Media are invited to attend and must apply to receive accreditation from the organizers by emailing events@directengagement.com . Their event badges will clearly indicate that they are 'Media'.  Media may also be recognized by the moderator to pose a question to the panel under the same format as audience members pose questions.  All media must identify themselves accordingly during the meet and greet session prior to the roundtable convening, during the refreshment break and at the adjournment of the roundtable when engaging both panelists and audience members.

        Testimonials from Panelists & Attendees

"The roundtable was an excellent opportunity to hear and converse in real-time with peers from a diverse operational perspective on some of the challenges they face in Ontario's healthcare sector from vantage points which included legal, government and information technology.  The forum facilitated forthright and candid discussion that brought attention for the need of a more coordinated and inclusive approach to be put forward with vendors, government and the healthcare community in order to better assist in the resolution of the outstanding issues uniformly expressed," Peter Catford, Vice President, Information Management & C.I.O., Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH)

"The roundtable organized by Direct Engagement on “Security, Privacy Systems & Policies in a Wireless and e-Health Environment” and presented with ITAC Ontario afforded a rare opportunity to gain insight into the issues faced by institutional health information custodians in implementing Ontario’s new health information protection law.  The session was well organized and the format contributed to an exceptionally candid discussion, facilitating an appreciation of what remains to be done," Bonnie Freedman, LLB, Goodman & Carr

"The peer-to-peer forum was a special opportunity to hear first-hand about some of the IT challenges facing Ontario's healthcare sector.  This information will enable Entrust and other vendors to have a more focused discussion with healthcare IT professionals, collaborating on innovative new ideas and ultimately working as partners to deploy truly valuable solutions,” Entrust Limited.

“Just wanted to thank you for the session on Privacy you organized – it was very helpful to get a sense of the challenges and issues that like organizations were experiencing and it also provided me with a higher level of confidence that we are addressing the legislation in appropriate fashion. Additionally, the composition of the group included diverse perspectives (legal, technical, operational and procedural) which allowed the entire group to gain better understanding surrounding some aspects of the legislation that we may have had some uncertainty around.” Andrew Brearton, Director of Information Services, St. Joseph's Health Centre

"Direct Engagement's roundtable thought leadership forum presented with ITAC Ontario was an excellent opportunity to obtain up-to-the-moment, unedited information from not one but a boardroom full of decision makers in a candid and frank peer-to-peer dialogue on their burning questions and issues that they face operationally today," Rogers Wireless Communications Inc.

"It was both timely and encouraging to hear from other stakeholders that the implementation of Bill 31 was generating anxieties around the table. Different interpretations of the bill and PHIPA could translate into a variety of differing demands on software and hardware providers. Sharing concerns about this is a first step toward developing realistic, shared standards and consistent operational systems. Compatibility between operational systems will be key in developing a truly patient-centered circle of care. This came across clearly during this productive roundtable facilitated by DEI and ITAC. I just hope the vendors were paying close attention!"  George Tolomiczenko, Ph.D., M.P.H., M.B.A., Research Director & Interim Public Affairs Director, SJHC
